12-team playoff format in place for first time this year
Published: Jun. 05, 2024, 1:59 p.m.The College Football Playoff has released kickoff times and television information for the 2024 season, the first to include a 12-team format.
The first round of the playoff will be played at campus sites the weekend of Dec. 20-21, with one game on Friday night and three on Saturday. Those games will be shown on ABC, ESPN and TNT. . The quarterfinal round will incorporate four of the traditional “New Year’s Six” bowls — the Fiesta, Rose, Peach and Sugar — on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. ESPN will broadcast all four of those games.
The semifinals take place Thursday-Friday, Jan. 9-10, hosted by the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl. ESPN will also show both of those games. Finally, the 2024-25 College Football Playoff National Championship game takes place on Monday, Jan. 20, in Atlanta.
