between college football blue-bloods — and only the 10th time the two programs have met, though the most recent matchup for the BCS title is still talked about today. It’s also the first out-of-conference road game the Crimson Tide faithful have had the opportunity to travel to since 2011, when Alabama played at Penn State. That doesn’t include neutral-site contests, but let’s be honest: There are only so many trips to Atlanta and Dallas a fan base can make before it gets a little stale.
This is a chance to make a rare on-campus visit to an out-of-conference team, and it’s one that is worth getting especially familiar with given that Texas is a future SEC rival. I don’t need to sell you on Austin, where Alabama hasn’t played in 100 years. It’s a city with a rich history of music, art and food. That’s why many fans making the trip are coming in a little early to experience something they haven’t gotten to do much lately, which is go to a new city for a game.
In that spirit, I surveyed some Austin locals to compile things Alabama fans might want to experience — and eat — while deep in the heart of Texas around Saturday’s 11 a.m. CT kickoff against the Longhorns.
