Students who are occupying a Columbia University building vow to fight back against efforts to expel them, as administrators struggle to contain Student Spring protests that have engulfed campuses across US.

President Joe Biden's White House sharply criticised the seizure of Hamilton Hall, with a spokesman saying it was"absolutely the wrong approach" as police patrolled street entrances to the prestigious New York university. The office of the UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, meanwhile, expressed concern about"heavy-handed steps" taken to dismantle protests on US campuses.
“An autonomous group reclaimed Hind’s Hall, previously known as ‘Hamilton Hall,’ in honor of Hind Rajab, a martyr murdered at the hands of the genocidal Israeli state at the age of six years old,” Columbia University’s Apartheid Divest , a coalition representing pro-Palestinian student organisations, posted on X.
"Students occupying the building face expulsion," Columbia spokesperson Ben Chang said in a statement on Tuesday.
