Nationwide Children's Hospital said Ohio is on track to see a 49% increase in marijuana exposure for kids compared to 2023,In 2023, there were 234 total edible exposure cases reported to Ohio Poison Centers for children under the age of 6 years. Already in 2024, Ohio Poison Centers have managed 204 cannabis edible exposures in this age group .

At the time of the incident, Columbus City Schools told ABC 6 the cannabis gummies came from another student at the school."That’s a lot for anybody," she said. "But for a 7-year-old, that’s extreme.Chief of Toxicology at Nationwide Children's, Dr. Hannah Hays, said staff are caring for children who are exposed to cannabis exposure multiple times per week.
