Columbus police are searching for whoever burned a handmade sign outside Congregation Tifereth Israel.

Leaders there say it happened around one in the morning on Tuesday. Columbus police and fire say there’s a joint investigation looking into the suspects.

I made this hand-painted banner back when it was just 42 days after the hostages were taken. I was inspired to make it after I was watching a conference with one of the hostages,” she said. “It made me want to have a way to express that as well -- broadcast to the world that these people are in harm’s way, and we still have an opportunity to help them. But that window is closing.”

It has been our way of showing our solidarity with them, and the idea burning such a sign down to a crisp to the fact that we cannot even see the remnants of the sign other than the ashes that are on the ground still here outside our synagogue. It’ just a sad state of the world,” said the Rabbi.
