Shinta Mani Mustang’s design takes a back seat to the dramatic surrounding landscape.
A partnership between Shinta Mani Hotels and Kathmandu-based Sherpa Hospitality Group, the 29-suite Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection, brings hotel designer Bill Bensley’s genius to remote northern Nepal. On a rise above the town of Jomsom at the gateway of Upper Mustang, in the Kali Gandaki valley between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges, the all-inclusive retreat features a wellness centre offering Tibetan traditional medicine.
Bensley’s design takes a back seat to the dramatic, Himalayan landscapes - but there are still undeniably characteristic flourishes, such as monk-robe-orange bed covers and giant tasselled lampshades. SeeIn July, a fire broke out in building materials on its roof, but management is still adamant: the huge blue glass tower that has sat empty for almost two decades on the Las Vegas Strip will open in December.
Most hotel users know the word “brand” in hospitality parlance relates to a family of hotels bearing the same core moniker: Radisson Blu, Rydges or Regent, for example. It indicates commonalities of service and atmosphere among the properties that carry a “soft brand”, however, means operators of individual hotels have the freedom to retain their property’s unique personality but are still afforded access to large hotel company bookings and loyalty systems.
