The Washington Commanders have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Chapelle Russell.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Chapelle Russell has signed a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders, the team announced on Tuesday. Russell missed all last season with an undisclosed injury he suffered during Steelers training camp.
When the Buccaneeers released him in late January, the Jacksonville Jaguars snapped Russell up as a project. He made the team’s roster. Over his career, Russell has made 18 tackles, with most of them coming either with the Jaguars or in his rookie season with the Buccaneers. Following his release from the Jaguars in 2022, Russell signed with the Steelers’ practice squad. Known as ‘Deuce,’ Russell played as an inside linebacker for the Steelers and became a reliable special teamer when called upon from the practice squad. Yet, he suffered a season-ending injury on August 12,Standing at 6-foot-2, Russell has the size to be a prototypical NFL inside linebacker. He ran a 4.69 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in 2020.
