The Washington Commanders drafted former Illinois defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton with the 36th overall pick Friday, adding another lineman to a defense in flux.
“Been waiting on this moment since I was 5 years old,” the Commanders’ newest defender said. “To have it finally happen, it’s a dream come true.” Washington added their new quarterback, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, with the No. 2 pick when the draft began on Thursday night.
