More than 80 riders tore round the streets of Wolverhampton, Dudley and South Staffs, chasing goal in the first road event of Birmingham 2022. In the end both gold medals went to Australia, with Grace Brown pipping England's Anna Henderson to gold, before Rohan Dennis followed suit in the men's race. He beat England's Fred Wright and Wales' 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
