Communities Minister Gordon Lyons confirmed the funding at a press event at Windsor Park on Wednesday afternoon

A major programme of investment for Northern Ireland football was announced at Windsor Park on Wednesday. Communities Minister Gordon Lyons confirmed that £36.2m will be pumped into the local game as part of a long-term financial package.

Minister Lyons addressed guests at Windsor on Wednesday, which was attended by Irish FA President Conrad Kirkwood and NI Football League CEO Gerard Lawlor, as well as representatives from Irish League clubs. "I want fans now, and in the future, to have the best experience at their local club. And looking forward, I want to foster our footballing stars of the future with the creation of a National Training Centre.

The Minister added: “I expect the first projects to receive letters of offer from my Department within this financial year and to start spending their award in the 2025/26 financial year. This will begin a rolling programme of awards and project delivery.
