Six families who lost their homes in a fire have received support from their community. The fire, which started in an upstairs bedroom, quickly spread and destroyed six terraced homes in Whitelee. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

But the good people of East Kilbride provided some respite for those affected on Saturday when the owner of local garage Spannerama handed over £2000 to each family, raised in just one week through a local fundraising appeal.
"All we did was plant a seed, it's all down to the community. The public have been phenomenal, it's just unbelievable the amount that's been raised.Locals took to social media to praise the business and East Kilbride residents for their humanity. Also collecting for the fire victims was local charity and food bank Share Alike who donated all proceeds from their recent Halloween karaoke event to the appeal.
