Dane Rampe broke one of the most basic rules in AFL in a shocking display of bad sportsmanship. It probably should have cost the Swans dearly.
In plain sight of the umpires as Essendon midfielder David Myers was running in for a massive 60m shot at goal after the siren, Rampe ran and jumped up the goalpost, shaking it, in a clear violation of the laws of the game.
The penalty for shaking the goalpost is a free kick at the centre of the goal line, which would have gifted the Bombers a one-point victory with a certain goal. And it appears Essendon players knew it too with both Jake Stringer and Cale Hooker angrily remonstrating with the field umpire.
