Darren Ankers died while serving time at a Lancs prison
The family of a man who died while serving a prison sentence have raised concerns about the healthcare he received while in custody.
The ombudsman's family liaison officer wrote to the next of kin to explain the investigation and to ask if they had any matters they wanted to be considered. The family asked about Mr Ankers’ clinical care, why there had been a delay of a week and a half before he was sent to hospital after he had had a fall and why he was not given sufficient pain relief.
The ombudsman concluded: "NHS England commissioned an independent clinical reviewer to review Mr Ankers’ clinical care at HMP Wymott. She concluded that the clinical care Mr Ankers received at Wymott was of a good standard and equivalent to what he could have expected to receive in the community.
