Lieutenant General Stephen Sklenka, the deputy commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, has also criticised the People's Liberation Army over its increasingly aggressive behaviour in the South China Sea. Lieutenant General Sklenka, a United States Marine Corps officer who has served in his Hawaii-based position since 2021, says he is increasingly worried about a miscalculation being made by China's military in strategic waters claimed by Beijing.
"There's no doubt that a dangerous world creates circumstances where resources can be strained," Lieutenant General Sklenka told the ABC."There is always the chance of what I refer to as 'strategic distraction', but I think we've made it pretty clear that we are a great power and great powers can do multiple things simultaneously.
