The Department for Infrastructure say the funding of the bypass ‘remains uncertain’
There is confusion over the future of a major roads project in Co Fermanagh after a Stormont department added it to a list of priority projects despite concern being raised over its funding.
Recent media reports have suggested that funding for the project has been withdrawn by Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harris, in a response to an overspend by Stormont in the last financial year. Jemma Dolan, Sinn Féin MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, says clarity is needed on the future of the bypass.
“Reports that the British secretary of state has decided to reallocate funding that was intended for the project due to budgetary reasons is deeply concerning."The Department for Infrastructure has stated that this project remains a priority for them and they will continue to make preparations for the scheme for when funding becomes available.
