The club have confirmed the departure of four first team players ahead of the new season.

Aberdeen have confirmed that Connor Barron has officially left the club along with three other first team players at the end of their contracts ahead of new manager Jimmy Thelin 's arrival.

The 21-year-old midfielder - who is a target for Premiership rivals Rangers and a host of teams down south and in Italy - will now be available to sign on a free transfer this summer, although the Dons will be entitled to around £500,000 in a development compensation fee. The Dons have just announced the signing of yoiung Irish centre-back Gavin Malloy from Shelbourne.

The club have however stated they remain in talks with winger Junior Hoilett over a new deal, following some sparkling displays from the Canada international in the closing weeks of the campaign. At youth level, Aberdeen have also announced the departures of youngsters Kieran Ngwenya, Finlay Murray, Kai Watson, Chris Kondolo, Aaron Reid, and Reuben Smillie while Stefan Gartenmann and Killian Phillips have returned to FC Midtjylland and Crystal Palace at the end of their respective loan deals.

New Pittodrie boss Thelin is expected to officially start in the Granite City next week, and replacing his departing stars will be high on the agenda. As revealed by Record Sport last month, Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has been identified as a potential replacement for Dutchman Roos, although the Light Blues £500,000 asking price could scupper negotiations.

Elsewhere, Swede Thelin is also prepared to hand a lifeline to winger Vicente Besuijen on his return from a loan spell with FC Emmen in the Dutch second tier. The former Ajax and Roma youngster was frozen out by ex Aberdeen manager Barry Robson in the first half of last season and failed to make a competitive appearance, but the 23-year-old will now be given a chance to prove his worth under the new regime.
