Ireland star Conor Murray will warmly embrace a VIP in Nantes after tonight's Rugby World Cup clash with Tonga.
A keen cyclist, Gerry was hit by a van while on his bike in his native Limerick - on the N20 near Patrickswell - in the week of Ireland's crunch Six Nations clash with France. The force of the collision led to him being induced in a coma for five days and Conor travelled up and down to be at his hospital bedside. And the 34-year-old performed brilliantly in a famous win that was a key part of Ireland's Grand Slam triumph in the championship.
Gerry didn't suffer any fractures from the accident, fortunately, but was treated for serious head injuries at Cork University Hospital.Conor said that the Rugby World Cup was an exciting time for his family, especially as his fourth one will probably be his last. "They're hugely excited, it's probably the last one as well so they're definitely making the most of it.
