The job comes with new powers
Ben Bradley has been selected by Conservative Party members as their candidate for Mayor of the East Midlands. The Mansfield MP and Nottinghamshire County Council leader said he was "overjoyed" at the news.
The new mayor will cover all of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and, similar to other regional mayors like Andy Burnham in Manchester or Andy Street in the West Midlands, will hold a range of new powers across areas like transport, economic growth and jobs, skills and housing. The selection meeting took place on Saturday, September 16, with members from across the region choosing between Councillor Bradley, and Councillor Barry Lewis, leader of Derbyshire County Council.
Coun Bradley said: “This is a huge opportunity for our region because it brings additional investment and the power to make real visible changes in our communities. I’ve got history and connections across the whole of our two counties, having grown up in North Derbyshire, been to school in Derby, university in Nottingham and now living in North Notts."It’s where all of my friends and family live, and I’m really passionate about delivering something positive for everyone who lives here.
