Respected constitutional expert, law professor and human rights lawyer Father Frank Brennan has warned of ten years of court challenges if the current proposed wording for the Voice to Parliament proceeds.
He says the Prime Minister’s process so far has been dead wrong, urging greater transparency and consultation from the government.
He argues the PM’s proposed language would be open to challenge and must be made “watertight” if the referendum is to succeed. “We’ve got a constitutional working group that is working through these issues, including former High Court Judge Justice Hayne and Professor Twome,” Mr Albanese said.
