Fire cover in Manchester city centre will increase
Controversial cuts proposed at two fire stations in Greater Manchester have been scrapped, with plans to increase cover in the city centre set to go ahead. Plans to stop manning Sale and Offerton stations at night were proposed as part of a review by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service .
The outcome of a public consultation on the plans was revealed at a Greater Manchester Combined Authority meeting today . Mr Burnham told council leaders at the meeting that the move means GMFRS will have another fire engines, taking the total number of pumps in the city-region to 51. He also revealed that the GMFRS will get 12 new fire pumps of the 'highest standard'. This means three-quarters of the fleet will be less than five years old.
