Victorian Liberals are debating whether to allow the former Deputy Leader of a controversial right-wing party, back into its membership ranks.
Aidan McLindon failed to unseat the Premier as a Freedom Party candidate in last year’s state election but in an exclusive interview with Sky News, the 43-year-old said he has no regrets.
“I don't rule anything in or out, what I would like to see is a rejuvenation of the broad church that Menzies started and we're not seeing that anywhere,” McLindon said. The party’s leader and outspoken commentator Morgan C Jonas, a personal friend of McLindon’s was involved in protests against the Andrews government’s handling of the pandemic and vaccine mandates.
“I am sure there is widespread support and I would be very comfortable to say that more than half the party would support my membership application,” McLindon said. Multiple Liberal Party sources have told Sky News Australia that the member for Eastern Victoria came under fire internally from colleagues for being at the multi-party event.
