Both coaches agree that the goal-line mark paid to Geelong's Tyson Stengle after video review was the correct call, despite controversy surrounding the decision.
A goal-line mark paid to Geelong ’s Tyson Stengle after video review in Saturday night’s four-point win over the Western Bulldogs at the Adelaide Oval was the correct call, according to both coaches.
When the goal umpire on field called a behind, Bulldogs’ defender Ed Richards put the ball back into play, but the field umpire had to stop the action so that score review officials could analyse the footage. Their eventual decision overruled the behind awarded to Geelong, instead giving a Stengle a mark and shot at goal, which he kicked – one of his four on the night.
“At the time, I can see the replay, but you just accept whatever decisions that have been made are the right ones. The luck didn’t go the Cats way in the dying minute of the match when Bulldogs wingman Bailey Williams appeared to push his opponent in the back before taking a mark and kicking a goal to reduce the margin to less than a goal.Cameron switch Cameron into ‘Richo’ role
The Bulldogs’ Harvey Gallagher was the latest to receive a rude shock when Geelong’s All-Australian premiership forward slid up to the wing midway through the match and went about creating his usual havoc. As always, he had a self-deprecating assessment of how throwing different tactics and positional moves at the opposition might work.“I’ve probably confused my teammates more than the opposition to be honest because I was in the wrong spot half the time,” Cameron said. The move served to open up the forward line and enabled Geelong to score more freely in the second and third quarters than they did early when Jones, who defeated Tom Hawkins, and Khamis were marking entries at will.
