From ‘friend’ and ‘family confidant’ to jailed fraudster, the case of ex-attorney Chris Pettit In an email Tuesday, Allen declined to comment on the filings. Pettit appears to have used boilerplate court documents to make the requests. The motion-to-dismiss filing contains references to “appointed counsel.” He crossed out the word “appointed” in six instances where it appeared and and initialed each. Allen was hired by Pettit, not appointed by the court.

Did disgraced ex-lawyer Chris Pettit have help in stealing millions of dollars from clients? Robert Almonte II, a former assistant U.S. attorney who led the prosecution of Pettit before resigning to go into private practice, called the court filings “super odd” because of their timing.
