Five years after her Salted Butter and Chocolate Chunk Shortbread recipe first went viral, alisoneroman is back with another classic cookbook.
You found yourself at the centre of an internet storm during the pandemic, and instead of disappearing, you pivoted and reinvented yourself. What motivated you to keep going and not just disappear from the public eye?
Well, I did disappear for a minute. It was a really dark time, personally and professionally. But I also didn’t have any alternative but to keep going. I had no savings, and there was part of me that just thought: this can’t ruin my life. At some point during that period, someone told me, “You have to give people something else to talk about, and if you stay focused on your work, things will turn around, because your work is good.
Um, I’m not very good at it? [Laughs] I haven’t written a newsletter in two months, which I’m kind of embarrassed about. I’ve been so busy getting the book tour together that I haven’t had enough time to cook, let alone write about it. Hopefully most people will understand, but I’m sure there’s tonnes of others who are like, “I’m not going to subscribe toanymore because you’re not publishing it.” So, yes, I definitely struggle to maintain my own workflow in a way that feels professional to me.
