Arresting officer Bryan Gillis released a statement following the dismissal of charges against Scottie Scheffler and fiery words from Scheffler’s lawyer.

Golfer Scottie Scheffler waits to putt on No. 18 green to finish out his opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, May 23, 2024.“Mr. Scheffler and I both agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward,” Detective Bryan Gillis wrote in a letter. “Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility and respect. My family and I appreciate that.”after the charges were dropped.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, said afterward that the golfer is “happy it’s over” and “obviously, he didn’t do anything wrong.”in which Scheffler is heard saying, “You’re right, I should have stopped. I did get a little impatient because I’m quite late for my tee time.”When questioned about the revelation in a press conference following Wednesday’s court hearing, Romines had some choice words.

“He didn’t have to speak,” Romines said, referring to the fact that Scheffler had already been read his Miranda Rights. “He wanted to explain to what happened. However, they are trying to get him to confess to something that he didn’t do. And the video evidence shows he didn’t do it.

The No. 1 golfer in the world was briefly held in jail, then returned to the course for the second round. He Scheffler’s lawyer said there were grounds for a civil lawsuit against the Louisville police department but the golfer is not interested in pursuing litigation.“Scottie Scheffler doesn’t want the taxpayers of Louisville to have to pay him a dime,” he said.“PS…Yes, the department has us buying freaking $80 pants. To those concerned, they were indeed ruined. But Scottie, it’s all good. I never would’ve guessed I’d have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this.
