Despite the latest draft agreement appearing to water down proposals to end fossil fuel subsidies, Nicola Sturgeon has said the deal is"inching forward".
She said she thought it was"well organised" and had even heard from some attendees it was the"best organised ever". We'd been expecting this latest version of the agreement - described as the near-final text - to be published overnight.
Commitments on cutting carbon were not enough to put us on track to avoid 1.5 degrees of warming. But the stated ambition sounded good enough for some to hope we would see something truly ambitious in terms of future intentions in the coming few years on cutting carbon further.Yesterday, the negotiating text was published and diplomatic gloves are off. It looks depressingly like the major players at the summit are retreating to long-held positions.
