Jack Cahalane, a key player for Castlehaven, has left the Cork football panel for the 2025 season. This follows the retirements of three players and the opt-outs of three others, marking a significant turnover for the squad.
Cork footballers have suffered another defection ahead of the 2025 season with Jack Cahalane having withdrawn from the panel. Cahalane has been in fine form for his club, Castlehaven , as they won the last two county titles, scoring 0-3 in this year’s final win over Nemo Rangers having notched 2-14 over the course of the campaign.
His departure, reported by the Southern Star, means that seven members of John Cleary’s 2024 squad will not be involved next year with Thomas Clancy, Killian O'Hanlon and John O'Rourke having retired, while Steven Sherlock, Damien Gore and Kevin Flahive have all opted out for the coming season like Cahalane. Cahalane, like his brothers Damien and Conor, also hurls for the St Finbarr’s club in Cork city though represents Castlehaven, the club of their father, double All-Ireland winner, Niall, and indeed Cleary, who is their uncle, in football. Cork footballers will operate in Division Two of the Allianz Football League in 2025 and start their campaign with a home tie against Meath at SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday, January 25
