Cornwall hit by earthquake leaving ‘houses shaking’ with locals woken up by ‘rumbles’

CORNWALL has been hit by an earthquake with residents woken up by "rumbles" reporting that their houses were "shaking".

The earthquake happened around 9.3km south of Redruth at 6.31am this morning and was confirmed by VolcanoDiscovery.Although its magnitude is said to be "unknown", the depth of the earthquake was 10km.Some residents said on social media they felt a "rumble" that sounded like a "large vehicle".While a second added: "I am more than 10 miles from Helston and definitely heard a rumble and felt a shake.

Another commented: "It sounded like a great big truck was coming towards the house and it got louder then the house shook and it went away." "I heard something but live along Clodgey Lane and just assumed it was a large vehicle," agreed a fourth.Most read in The Sun
