A vigilant skincare nurse, Anna Bianconi-Moore, identified a concerning mole on actress Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts on Coronation Street. Moore acted swiftly, urging Nicholls to seek medical attention, which ultimately led to the early detection and removal of a malignant melanoma.
Audrey's dramatic storylines on Coronation Street have long captivated audiences, yet it was an off-screen event that truly shook fans. Specialist skincare nurse Anna Bianconi-Moore noticed a concerning mole on actress Sue Nicholls ' shoulder while watching the show. She was alarmed to see a mole, which was visible in a scene where Nicholls wore a nightgown, had signs of being cancerous.
With her professional eye, she identified potential signs of malignant melanoma and didn't hesitate to contact the Coronation Street team to advise Nicholls to seek medical attention, reports Surrey Live. She later told the press: 'I noticed it was irregular in shape and had at least three different colours.' Driven by concern for the well-loved actress, Moore felt it was imperative to act. The Suffolk-based 55-year-old then contacted the show to urge Sue to have the mole examined. 'These are two of the red-flag signals that distinguish the most deadly form of skin cancer malignant melanoma,' she said. 'I was obviously incredibly worried for Sue, and felt I needed to do something.' Moore promptly sent a letter expressing her alarm, warning: 'I wrote that I had observed a sinister-looking lesion and suggested that Sue should see a specialist, sooner rather than later, as it may require urgent attention.' By day, Moore works as a dermatology clinic nurse at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, honing her diagnostic skills which led to the life-saving discovery of Nicholls' mole. Nearly a year on, Sue had the mole removed, and the diagnosis of malignant melanoma was confirmed. The actress made a public appeal for the observant viewer to come forward. The two met on the Coronation Street set at the end of May, allowing Sue to express her gratitude for what could be a life-saving intervention
