Helen Lederer made her debut on Coronation Street tonight as she played a new love interest for Ken Barlow - and fans are already calling for her to join the soap permanently
Coronation Street fans couldn't contain their excitement during Wednesday night's visit to the cobbles when Absolutely Fabulous star Helen Lederer made the soap debut as a potential new love interest for Ken Barlow. In the latest episode, Ken was trying to help his son in law Steve McDonald start dating again after his breakup with Tracy Barlow.
Viewers even enjoyed Helen's performance so much, that after only a few minutes on screen, they were willing to demand that she stay on the show forever! One viewer tweeted: "Welcome to Corrie @HelenLederer. I like her. Can #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie keep her please?" A second fan also agreed and added: "I'm already loving Helen Lederer as Ken's new love interest! #Corrie.
Asked about how she got the part, Helen said: "It came out of the blue but for me Coronation Street, of all the soaps, is the most substantial and ironic with such humour, it's really a class act. So when you get the call for Coronation Street you drop everything.", reports the Mirror.
