Dev Alahan's engagement bliss on Coronation Street could be cut short as fans predict the shocking return of former villain Maya Sharma. Maya, infamous for her jealous rage and attempts to harm Dev and Sunita in the past, is rumored to be back for revenge, potentially causing chaos at Dev and Bernie's upcoming wedding.
An iconic Coronation Street villain could be set for a surprise return, according to fans - but it’s not looking good for Dev Alahan . Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) has been a staple on the soap since his debut back in 1999. As the beloved Weatherfield businessman, Dev has become a firm favourite with fans. As well as being involved in several big storylines, Dev’s also had his fair share of failed relationships too - including his marriage to Sunita (Shobna Gulati).
And over on the cobbles recently, he and partner Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) - who Dev has been dating for a few years - took the next step in their romance and got engaged. But viewers are now predicting a former cobbles villain is about to return and shake things up for Dev - and he will be left floored. Back in 2003, Maya Sharma (Sasha Behar) made her first appearance as Dec’s lover. Things got very serious for the pair very quickly as Maya’s jealousy and paranoia unfolded on screen. But when Dev started growing close to ex-wife and baby mama Sunita all kicked off. Especially when Dev eventually dumped Maya to fall back into his former lover Sunita’s arms. Fuming, Maya did not stop at anything to get her revenge. In one of the soap’s most iconic scenes, in 2004, Maya tied Dev and Sunita up in the flat above their shop. In a bid to kill the pair, she then created a gas explosion. However, her plan was foiled as she tried to make her escape. In shocking scenes, a lorry crashed into her van as she attempted to get away. Luckily, Dev and Sunita survived - with Maya then rushed to hospital in intensive care. Following some time in hospital, it was later revealed that Maya had been sent to jail to await trial. But since then, Maya’s not been mentioned at all. However, over 20 years on and fans reckon a comeback for Maya could be on the cards after the news of Dev and Bernie’s engagement. “Manifesting a Mad Maya return for Dev and Bernie’s wedding. It’s time she came back to finish what she started,” said one person on X. Someone else agreed: “Bring Mad Maya back for Dev’s wedding please.” On a Corrie Facebook fan page, a third commented: “Maya needs to come back for Dev’s wedding!” Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV
