One of the most recognisable parts of the Street is in jeopardy - again

Coronation Street has revolved around the Rover's Return since the start, but in soapland nothing is sacred. With Weatherfield's residents facing personal troubles every day, on Friday the unthinkable has finally raised its head.

The future of the Rovers may well be in jeopardy. It all kicked off when Debbie alerted Ronnie to the fact that Newton & Ridley shares had nose-dived and he’d better hope Waterfords make an offer for the pub soon. Thrown into panic, Ronnie told Ed that he was having second thoughts about the new project and that he thought they should pull out, but Ed wouldn't hear of it. When Ronnie heard Henry telling the Rovers staff that his dad intended to sell the brewery but he was doing everything he could to stop it, he caught him outside and urged him to accept Waterfords' offer.Henry pointed out that he never mentioned Waterfords and demanded to know where Ronnie got his information. And when Ed revealed he’d put in a bid for the plot of land, Ronnie was forced to explain there’s no money because he blew it all on Newton & Ridley shares which are now worthless. It all sounds very dramatic, and the pub is the heart of the cobbles. But some viewers are a little bit tired of the idea that Weatherfield's sole drinking hole could go under. Phil Swales @FillsWhales called it, saying: "Pub problems again. Yawn. We all know the Rovers is going nowhere. #corrie." Meanwhile Greg Phillips @Greg_Phillips_ was concerned that it would make a poor commercial decision for any buyer, posting: "Why would anyone buy a dead end pub with no customers these days. #corrie" Oli from Reading @OliReading also doubts the business nous, commenting: "#Corrie so Newton and Ridley are buying the pub while the business is going under." Jamie Pragnell @jamie_pragnell thinks that selling it as a going concern is a bit of a cheek. He wrote: "The Rovers Return….a pub with more staff than customers…… #corrie"
