Coronation Street reviewed: 'Surely Ryan deserves better than a woman who only ever seems to want to spend time with her gran'
Coronation Street fans couldn't fail to be moved as Roy Cropper was taken ill during a salsa class, and naturally he turned to his new four-legged friend Freddie for comfort. Man's best friend was there for the Corrie cafe owner after he felt unwell, while best friend Evelyn was disbelieving, thinking he just wanted to get out of the class led by Glenda Shuttleworth.
He's only had the cute pooch for days. But a loyal dog would never let you down, as Roy found as he held onto Freddie at home, willing for his chest pain to pass while reassuring his new pet. It was an emotional acting masterclass from actor David Neilson as Roy. Viewers were also put through the wringer as stalker Justin Rutherford pleaded not guilty to GBH with intent and possession of an offensive weapon after his horrific acid attack aimed at Daisy Midgeley, which left Ryan Connor scarred after he was splashed in the face. When his ex Alya Nazir assured him she’d be right by his side, Ryan admitted that he loves her, but he suffered another major blow to his confidence when she told him they could only be friends.
Ryan thanked Daisy for bringing Crystal in, admitting that discussing gigs in Ibiza had given him something to focus on. But as Ryan looked to the future, the scene was interspersed with an angry Crystal telling Daisy that she had felt bamboozled into seeing him and telling her to fire him for her. Sorry Daniel, but surely the happy outcome for Ryan would be to eventually find romance with Daisy, the one person who understands the ordeal they both went through that day.
And we may actually be cheering on twisted firestarter Hope Stape for once after she managed to capture gobby Beth smooching her equally 80s-obsessed ex Marco on camera. After being slapped by Beth, she earned the opportunity to have one over on her.
