Coronation Street has officially confirmed that Debbie Webster will receive a devastating health diagnosis in upcoming episodes. Last year, reports emerged that the beloved character would be 'killed off' in 2025 in a heartbreaking storyline. Debbie's diagnosis will be dementia, marking a significant final storyline for actress Sue Devaney . Sue's initial run on the show lasted only one year, but she has been a fan favorite since rejoining in 2019.
Speaking previously about playing Debbie, the 57-year-old told The Sun: 'I absolutely love playing her. When I first came back, I never imagined I would be around for that length of time and I am delighted. 'Every day when I drive into work, I have a big grin on my face. I am so happy to be here. When I get to work with new people I haven't worked with before that I have watched on screen, I am so excited. She is such a fun character to play.' At the time of reports about Sue's exit, bosses declined to comment on future storyline speculation. However, they have now confirmed the character's fate in a new official Q&A with actress Sally Carman, who plays Debbie's sister-in-law Abi Webster. Sally was asked about the 'big year' ahead for her on-screen family, with specific reference to Kevin's testicular cancer diagnosis and 'the upcoming dementia storyline with Debbie'. The question read: 'Did you ever imagine that you could be at the centre of storylines for a heritage family that has been in the show for 40 years?' to which Sally replied: 'No, Corrie is an absolute dream job anyway but then to think it could get better than that. 'Just being on the show, actually being involved in the Webster's lives and being central to that just blows my socks off daily. Absolutely it does. I still have pinch me moments all the time.
