New Jersey's governor, announcing the measures, said the three states had been 'through hell and back'.
The US states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are imposing quarantine measures on visitors from states with high coronavirus infection rates.
In a joint news conference, the governors of the three states said a 14-day self-quarantine would apply to those visiting from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Washington and Utah. New Jersey governor Phil Murphy said the measures were"a smart thing to do", adding:"We have taken our people, the three of us from these three states, through hell and back, and the last thing we need to do right now is subject our folks to another round."Andrew Cuomo, New York's governor, said the quarantine will apply to any state where 10 out of 100,000 people are testing positive on a rolling seven-day basis, or where 10% of the population is testing positive.
Governor Greg Abbott told local media the spread of the virus was"rampant", saying:"Unless you do need to go out, the safest place for you is at your home."
