Cormann was also asked about the fact that Australian pensioners will not receive an automatic indexation increase next month because inflation has gone backwards. It’s the first time since 1997 that the pension hasn’t risen with indexation. Labor says this means that the pension is “on hold” but Cormann said it’s actually an improvement in the relative position of pensioners.
