BREAKING: Coronavirus death toll passes 46,000 after another 120 die in UK
Plans to open casinos, bowling alleys and skating rinks tomorrow have been shelved for at least two weeks in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.Boris Johnson said he knew the announcement would be a ‘huge blow’ to many people but that he could not ignore evidence suggesting the virus was on the rise.
he statistics body also estimate that there are now 4,900 new infections every day, up from around 3,000 a day on July 14 and 2,000 a day at the end of June. Infections are rising at the fastest rate in the north-west, where a partial lockdown has been reimposed. The government has banned people in Greater Manchester, areas of east Lancashire and West Yorkshire from mixing households.
The surprise announcement was made on Thursday night, hours before the restrictions were due to come into force.
