Across England, schools were given a number of coronavirus tests before they started back to help keep them open, Kate Green, shadow education secretary told Kay BurleyBut they have now"run out" and with 85% of the population unable to access a test yesterday, children are having to be sent home.
It reported a record daily high of 97,570 cases on 11 September and has added more than one million cases in September alone. The justice secretary added:"At all times, the prime minister and all of us were absolutely focussed on the dangers of a second wave. "It has to be the NHS first and then social care, and then I think what we need to do is have a cascading system where we know where our priority should be.
"But, as demand has risen, so we're having to prioritise once again. I do not shirk from decisions about prioritisation. The speaker had earlier told members of the Irish parliament that it would not reopen for a week, however the prime minister reversed that decision.
