BRITONS wearing masks and wheeling suitcases have arrived at Spain's major airports as the nation opened its borders to most European countries and ended a ended a nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Ryanair flights touched down in Malaga and Alicante on Sunday as the first Britons arrived for their holidays to hit the beach and soak up scorching temperatures following months of lockdown restrictions. Spain's borders are now open to Britain, all EU countries except Portugal, as well as Schengen area members outside the bloc in a much-needed boost to the country's tourism industry which accounts for more than 12 percent of the economy.
