A surge in abuse-related searches could be a sign people are identifying themselves as victims for the first time, an expert says.
"The message from government and from Refuge is that if you are experiencing domestic abuse and you want to leave your household and you are safe to do so, to then reach out and access support," she said.
As well as launching the #YouAreNotAlone initiative to show solidarity with those facing abuse, the government has promised £750m for frontline charities, including those dealing with domestic violence.good sign that people are seeking help"When you are in a domestic abuse situation, the sense of isolation is very, very strong," she said.
"In fact, it's a strong, purposeful tactic perpetrators will use to try to isolate somebody from friends, family, even colleagues... and the current situation of people being in lockdown has really exaggerated that sense of isolation."She urges those suffering to take the same step and break the cycle of abuse.
