Nearly 400 passengers were evacuated from the Diamond Princess ship, with the help of the Japanese military.

Those who had already tested positive were not able to board the flight at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport but an exception was made for those already on their way, and were moved to a ‘specialised containment area’ on the flight. The quarantine period on board was set to end on Wednesday but US officials decided to cut this short and carry out their own rigorous testing, as they could not accept the Diamond Princess quarantine as proof someone is virus-free.
