The NHS test and trace system for Covid-19 is not expected to work to its full efficiency until at least September, an executive of the scheme reportedly told staff.
Responding to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, Mr Johnson said: ‘He has heard that we have growing confidence that we will have a test, track and trace operation that will be world-beating, and yes, it will be in place by 1 June.’ The Guardian reports that Mr Prestedge said he expected the test and trace programme to run for two years.
‘But it isn’t. And a critical element – the ability of local authorities to respond to local spikes – is missing.’
