Sienna Monteiro died when she was just an hour old
A coroner has called on NHS bosses to clarify the guidance issued to doctors involved in childbirth following the death of a newborn baby girl.
However, after the decision was made to transfer Sienna to the neonatal unit, her condition deteriorated around 75 minutes after she was born. Resuscitation was started but after 20 minutes, and with no sign of life, Sienna was pronounced dead. The inquest has heard that the blood gas analyser used on Sienna had not been set to monitor haemoglobin levels. The various independent experts, as well as doctors and midwives from Blackpool Victoria Hospital, were unable to agree if it should have been, which led the coroner to issue a Prevention of Future Deaths report.
"It would be remiss of me not to write this report as there seems to be a lack of clarity nationally."
