Our thoughts are with their loved ones
An inquest has opened into the deaths of two friends who were involved in a Nottinghamshire village crash. Harvey Holehouse, 19, and 17-year-old Jake Hankins died in a two-car collision on the A612 Southwell Road, in Gonalston, last year.
Family and friends paid tribute to the teenagers, who were pronounced dead at the scene at around 10.45pm on September 22, saying they would be sorely missed. Opening an inquest their deaths on Monday, April 17, assistant coroner Beth Brown said the provisional cause of death was multiple injuries. The opening at Nottingham Council House, which was attended by the family of Jake outlined the basic details of the case before being adjourned until a date to be fixed. Ms Brown confirmed both teenagers had been identified by their fathers after the crash.
"I would like to express my sincere condolences to you all at what must be a really difficult time," she said. Flowers were left for Jake, of Stamford, and Harvey, of Woodborough, after the crash which left three others seriously injured. Southwell Road was closed for several hours between the junctions with Gonalston Road, Gonalston, and Beck Street, Thurgarton, before it was reopened. Both Harvey and Jake were known for their love of farming and agriculture. And, following the tragedy, the Nottinghamshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs made the call to cancel the afterparty of their first event of the season last year as a sign of respect.
