Friends and family members of a Corpus Christi police officer shot and critically wounded by a domestic violence suspect are appealing for donations to pay his medical expenses. Kyle Hicks , a two-year veteran of the force, suffered life-threatening injuries “and continues to fight for his life,” the Corpus Christi Police Department said. Hicks was injured at 12:32 a.m.

The suspect was not identified. “It’s a traumatic event,” the chief said. “Our hopes and prayers are with this officer.” Hicks, who is married with four children, was reported to be in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. A GoFundMe page appealed to donors to “stand with Officer Hicks’ fight for life.” “He is surrounded in love and prayer by his family, friends, police department family, and community,” the post said.
