Lauren was soon presumed dead and as the last known person to see her, and the fact he misguidedly cleaned her flat before blood was found on the curtains, it was Roy Cropper who was accused of being responsible for her disappearance and spent time behind bars, charged with Lauren's murder. Lauren has since been found by Joel as she put her life on the line to visit Roy in hospital after he suffered a heart attack just weeks after being released from prison. As she tried to leave, he accosted her and the pair ended up in an intense confrontation in a family room.
It was when she tried to end things once and for all, and threatened to tell his fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey that Joel snapped and attacked her. But, in real-time, when Joel seemingly went to hurt Lauren again, she cowered and held her stomach, with him discovering she is carrying his child.
