Costco customers are voicing their discontent over inflated fuel prices at the Trafford Park branch compared to the Haydock location. Shoppers allege that the company is capitalizing on its prime location by charging 5-6 pence per litre more, citing frustration and a sense of unfair treatment.
Costco has faced criticism from customers over price discrepancies at its Trafford Park branch. Shoppers have complained that fuel prices are significantly higher at the Trafford Park site compared to the Haydock branch, located approximately half an hour away in St Helens. One customer, Kris Barron, who frequently fills his vehicle at Costco , highlighted the consistent price difference. He stated that the Trafford Park branch typically charges 5p to 6p per litre more than Haydock.
While acknowledging that the price difference isn't always substantial, Barron emphasized the frustration of paying a premium for fuel at a location with high customer volume. He pointed out that Trafford Park should logically offer lower prices due to its higher sales volume compared to Haydock. Barron also mentioned that the lengthy queues at Trafford Park, sometimes exceeding 20 or 30 minutes, further add to the inconvenience.Another driver expressed their annoyance at the price disparity, stating that it's unfair for the same company to charge different prices for the same product based solely on location. They emphasized their expectation as a Costco member to receive consistent pricing across all branches. When the Manchester Evening News independently verified fuel prices at both locations on January 14th, a clear difference was observed. At Trafford Park, unleaded fuel was priced at 131.9 pence per litre, 5 pence higher than Haydock's 126.9 pence per litre. Premium unleaded at Trafford Park was 136.9 pence per litre, compared to 133.9 pence per litre at Haydock. The most significant difference was found in premium diesel prices, with Trafford Park charging 137.7 pence per litre and Haydock 131.9 pence per litre, a 4.4% difference.
