La cifra calculada se incrementó de 483 millones a 581 millones de dólares canadienses . Un cálculo realizado en marzo de 2022 apuntó a 260 millones de dólares canadienses por cinco partidos. Pero la FIFA aumentó a siete el total de duelos.
“Seguro, habrá más costos e ingresos, pero si se estira esto al largo plazo, los beneficios son colosales, y pagarán de sobra ese déficit”, aseveró el martes el alcalde de Vancouver, Ken Sim. La FIFA no respondió de inmediato a una solicitud de comentarios sobre estos números. El gobierno de la Columbia Británica confió en que el suceso genere suficientes ingresos para arrojar un costo neto de entre 100 y 145 millones de dólares canadienses .
