Rossendale has 10 official events for Remembrance Sunday this year
The financial cost of supporting Rossendale’s Remembrance Sunday events, road closures, war memorial maintenance and other activities to remember those who have died in conflicts has been debated by councillors.
Currently, remembrance events are organised by community groups and relevant organisations. Ten events are listed on the official remembrance programme and the motion would create further council resource implications, a report stated. But Labour Coun Patrick Marriott suggested changes. He said: “This seems to be about a mechanism for finding small grants? But we have that in place for community grants and it works well.”
“The council would like to formalise a vote of thanks to the amazing teams of volunteers across our community who work so hard to ensure that Rossendale never forgets those who gave so much in conflict, to protect the freedoms we enjoy.”
