The headline from all this is that it could see the Big Three play each other twice every three years as opposed to the current model which sees series between these teams twice every four years. So, two Ashes series every three years. Players are already being tempted away from international cricket to take up lucrative franchise deals. So wouldn’t more high-profile series against the best teams entice players to stick with international cricket for longer?
Why, for example, have England just played series away to Pakistan and New Zealand twice in three years? Might a formalisation of two divisions see both South Africa and Sri Lanka play more regularly against the Big Three? It would be a good if that was the case.
